This is the work I am most proud of. I used many different mediums to create this, including photography, UV ink scratched into old film, fine liner drawings, and ink in water. The whole process was such a joy to create and I would love to push my work further in this direction, by creating more experimental films/animations and mixed-media artworks and looking at sound as an art form. Below is the excerpt used for the description at the Turner Contemporary gallery in Margate, Kent.
"Sensory Overload is a short, experimental film which aims to convey my personal experience of being autistic. Sensory difficulties can be a daily challenge for many autistic individuals and still remains a poorly, and often misunderstood condition. Sudden noises, strong smells and bright lights can be overwhelming for some; even painful.
In order to feel accepted in society, I myself have learned to internalise these feelings. Through the use of lights, repetition, vivid imagery and sounds, I have created this film to show how overloading the senses often leads to an intense feeling of despair; sensory overload".
